The 9th Annual Party in the Park to celebrate Celia’s Rainbow Gardens was held March 19 and this year more than 500 people came and enjoyed the day. The festivities started at noon with a free barbecue lunch, with over 500 cheeseburgers, 300 hot dogs, 150 pounds of potato salad, 100 pounds of pasta salad, 100 pounds of cole slaw and seven sheet cakes were given out to the hungry party.

The entertainment for the day was provided by Jerry Mullins and his Friends, and Stillwater Band, both who have been performing at the Party in the Park and the annual Spaghetti dinner in November for the past several years. These wonderful and talented musicians donate their time for these events, and they have a huge following in Quartzsite, doing a great job of entertaining everyone and having lots of fun.

The day started out looking like the rain was going to come but by noon the sun was coming out and the party went on as planned. It turned out to be a big success thanks to the break in the weather, with the showers holding off until late afternoon.
The party is an annual event to thank all the volunteers who work so hard in the Gardens to make it what it is today and to also thank everyone for their continued support of the Gardens. What started out nine years ago as a small gathering of about 100 people has grown over the years to now having over 500 people come out and enjoy the fun. Sponsors offered special thanks to all the volunteers who came to the party and helped cook the food and serve the crowds.
“It was an enormous task, and the volunteers did a great job as usual,” they said. “Thanks also to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and to everyone who made a donation for the lunch.”

The money raised helped to defray the cost of the meal, and there was some left over to further the work in the Gardens. A donation of $100 was given by the Red Hat ladies from the Magic Circle to be used in the Gardens, and is much appreciated.
A special thanks also went out to the Quartzsite Times, Desert Messenger, and KBUX radio for helping to get the word out. Also, a very special thanks to the General Store and Q-Check for their generous donations and help getting the meal together.

“The party was a huge success, thanks to everyone who put their time and efforts into it, and Celia’s Rainbow Gardens thanks everyone who came out and helped, and also to those who came out and enjoyed the celebration with us.”
