One of the newest areas in Celia’s Rainbow Gardens is what we have called the
Heroes area, located just south of the Rock and Gem pavilion. In this area,
there will be a large rock garden in the center, and around the rock garden will
be a large patio area.
The patio will be surrounded by benches and several kiosks honoring the men and
women who risk their lives for us. Along with the kiosks and benches, some new
additions will be added.
Several months ago, I received a call from a lady who met us when she visited
the bookstore and heard about the Gardens. She called me and asked if we would
have room in the Gardens somewhere for a Peace Pole.
I had never heard of such a thing and I recently met with her at her home in
Wickenburg to see what she was talking about. What she showed me was a beautiful
hand-carved pole done by a friend of hers that held the words May peace prevail
on earth” in many languages.
Apparently, these poles are seen all over the world, in dozens of countries.
They are mostly made of square blocks of wood that have a pointed top and they
hold up to 16 plaques in different languages.
This one is unique because it is hand-carved, and it is really beautiful. She
told me that you can get many more languages if you want to make more poles and
this is what we have decided.
We are now looking to find some men or women who like to carve wood to help make
more of these poles that we can add to this one to make a display of poles to be
included in this area.
We will supply the poles, and we are hoping that some imaginative woodcarvers
will add their own special touches to them. There will be space on the poles for
many more language plaques this way and we are hoping to have several more done
to be added to this area. If you are interested in carving and would like to
work on this project, please contact Joanne or Paul at 927-6551.
